Talk English Media's online courses now available offered with personalized Content Manager

Talk English Media's 'Online Courses' facility allows schools to design their own courses with activities completed at distance and managed remotely. These courses offer great flexibility to students to learn any time, any place at any pace.

Schools also can also fit their own content into the current Talk English Media templates by using the Content Manager. These templates include the following activities:

Image Match

This is one of the most effective ways of building up student's vocabulary. Everyday images are presented on the screen. Below the images is a selection of the words; these correspond to the images above. The user's task is to drag the word beside the correct image. Users are scored out of eight in this activity. This activity quickly builds up users' vocabulary and ability to recognise words

Pronunciation

The pronunciation activity is very popular with students and is a more difficult activity than it might appear. Users are asked to select the correct pronunciation for a given word. They must first listen to three similar words before making their selection. The user selects each of the three play buttons to listen to all three options. They can listen as often as they wish and then select what they believe to be the correct pronunciation. After selecting the 'ok' button they find out if they were right or wrong.

Word Search

This activity is based on a very popular game in quiz books. This tests the student's ability to recognize written words and is great fun to play. Nine words are hidden in a grid of letters. The student searches the grid for a chosen word, when they locate that word, they simply select the first letter and the last letter of that word and the word is marked out. It is also crossed off the list of words on the right of the screen. One can select the 'ok' button at anytime to receive your score. This game is difficult to begin with but as you find words the activity becomes more and more fun.

Jumbled Words

Users are presented with sentences in which the words are in the wrong order. The student's task is to reassemble the words in the correct order and form the sentence. This activity focuses on vocabulary and he students understanding of syntax.

Jumbled Sentences

This is perhaps the most difficult activity in our course. This game improves student's spelling ability and recognition of words. We strongly encourage students to use the vocabulary book to help them with this activity. The answers to this activity are in this vocabulary book if students can complete this activity; they are on the path to conquering the English language.

Gap Fill

Gap fill is a classic game for learning any language. We have enhanced the game by giving the user the opportunity to listen to the conversation as often as they like. After listening to the conversation have are given a selection of words with which they have to fill in the blanks in a text version of that conversation. This improves listening comprehension and helps students associate the aural version of the conversation with the text version.

Listening Comprehension

This activity tests the user aural comprehension. Students listen to the one of the conversations again by selecting the play button. There is a list of questions with three choices for each question. If the student guesses the correct answer then they get a mark for each answer. This activity is scored out of nine.

Matching Sentences

In this activity, students are presented with sentences that have been split into 2 parts. The student is required to put the sentences back together again. This activity is a simple way to improve reading and comprehension. It is also used to introduce simple syntax.
